Pictured above is Mrs. Linda Hawkes with two very special pups. Xena and Andi Vom Hawkhaus are learning at an early age to follow in their mother's pawprints. Both pups volunteer at the local hospital weekly to help provide that little extra medicine...love. Ira, the pups mom, has been working to help patients recover most of her life. We dedicate this page to Mrs. Hawkes and Ira and her pups.

Team Therapy......Doctor's Assistant!

Cadman's Iron Ira, RTD, AKC pointed

"These eyes are pools of healing water..."

Ira is the beautiful mother of the two therapy pups above. Ira has been working at the local hospital in Portland, Maine for a long time. Ira has been instrumental in helping many patients who needed more than what modern medicine could give. Ira gives her heart and a special love that helps to heal the mind and spirit. When the staff and patients found out Ira had had pups, they all requested their presence at the hospital. From then on.....well....that's history.... They are now visiting there weekly with mom.

Ira represents her breed at it's best by demonstating the tough working drive and stable, loyal, and loving temperament demanded of the Rottweiler. Ira is what a Rottweiler should be.

Ira daughter Andi proudly displays her therapy ID and checks in for work!

Ira helps Mr. Skip Pinkham from Pemaquid Point, Maine. Ira can always cheer him up! Being sick isn't any fun unless you have a therapy Rott to help you get better.... Hey Mr.Pinkham?

These therapy pups are sometimes the highlight of a patient's day.

Andi and sister Xena at work with patient Marge Rinaldi and their therapy trainer, Linda Hawkes.

Marge gives extra pats to Andi. She loves the girls' visits. It brightens her day.

When all you can do is lie still flat, it sure is nice to be able to pet a loving pooch who is there at your side to help your recovery.

Xena gets a "treat" from staff LPN, Nancy Lamb.

"Yummy, yummy, this therapy stuff ain't so bad"!says Xena.

Staff at the hospital love the dogs as much as the patients do.

Staff RN, Joyce Roy treats Andi.

If Xena gets a treat then Andi has to, of course!!

Physical therapist Celeste Sartor is crazy, crazy, crazy about Xena. Xena is pretty crazy about her too!

Special physical therapy programs with dogs helping patients to rehabilitate after strokes or debilitating injuries are incorporated into many pet therapy programs.

Proud owner, Doug Rhea looks on while his new puppy "Cassie" shows him that even though she will always be a top show dog, therapy will always be a part of her life.
